Tasting History

A sample of distinctive wines I have been tasting:

A quintet of great old New Zealand wines:

Amazingly fresh and bright: Dry River Chardonnay 1997

Very long, very complex, very interesting: Muddy Water Pinotage 2000

Brilliantly self-confident NZ syrah: Stonecroft Syrah 2008

A serious wine with terrific persistence: Trinity Hill Pinot Noir 2004

Deeply viscous and well-balanced: Highfield Riesling 2000

Tasting History: Borges Terrantez 1846  Madeira: where every wine is a performance in its own right, every glass of very old Terrantez becomes a final, unrecordable swan song.

Talha wine:  Herdade do Rocim Amphora 2020  Alentejo, Portugal. Taste wines today like the best made in Roman times.

Great art: DFJ Grand' Art Alvarinho 2020  Portugal. Who needs boring old Chardonnay when you can have this!

Happy Sauvignon Blanc day: Les Ormes de Cambras Sauvignon Cuvee Reservee 2020 Languedoc, France

Pitch-perfect Port: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1997 Douro, Portugal

Black wines matter: Les Galets d’Olt Malbec 2016  Cahors, France

Ticks all the boxes: Guerila Retro 2017 , Vipava, Slovenia

Ethically farmed: Carstens Cinsault 2016  , South Africa

Vines older than time: Zorah Yeraz 2015 , Armenia

La belle epoque: Epoque Sauvignon Gris 2016 , Bergerac, France

Haro heroine: Vina Bosconia 2008  Rioja, Spain
