Under 1000 bottles, white grapes sourced from old mixed variety vines from ‘José de Sousa Vineyard’ planted in 1952/53.
12% Vinho de Talha DOC. This blend of Antao Vaz, Manteudo and Diagalves spent six months on skins, blending in one part stems to give a feeling of acidity. After removing from skins it was returned to clay for 10 months covered in olive oil, then matured for a year in bottle. It wears a deep, bright, golden-orange color. Darker color deceptively implies it could be oxidized, but isn’t at all. Wine has interesting Pekoe tea-like aromas and flavors, fine acidity, clean, very fine viscosity, supported by quite elegantly structured, fine skin tannins. Butterscotch aromas emerge with airing. A lot to unlock in this wine. Not a quaffer, one for contemplation, sipping over a long evening. From ‘José de Sousa Vineyard’ planted in 1952/53 (Tasted 11.2021) 90
