Quinta do Mondego Wines

Munda Encurzado 2009 13.5%  This Encruzado is fermented in 1 year old, 500 litre barrels, which may account for oak dominated aromas and flavors.  Making it hard to see varietal character, I am assuming it may integrate better with more age. Some nutty, with lees-aged notes with strongest point its great tapered finish. 10eu Tasted 10.2012

Munda Encurzado 2010 13% Although from hotter year, this shows less alcohol and more acidity than 2009. Much better balanced, less oaky, with complex oatmeal notes, succulent fruit shaded with lovely mineral notes, ending with a flawlessly clean, melt-away finish. 10eu Tasted 10.2012

Munda Touriga Nacional 2007 14%  Nice mix of gamey, brambly, barrel fermentation aromas, firm powdery mid-palate tannins, good length and concentration. Tasted 10.2012

Munda Touriga Nacional 2008 14.5% This leads with subtle, smoky barrel fermentation and mineral graphite aromas, carrying on with a densely textured, explosive palate understruck by firm, but finely crafted tannins. Showing great length, this is a powerful, ultra-modern, pure Touriga style from Dao. Tasted 10.2012

Munda Touriga Nacional 2009 14% As before in 08, this was made in a mix of new and 1 year French oak (some were 500 litres) and then matured for 18 months. The 09 shows more savory red fruit aromas, with a creamy smooth palate laced with juicy red and black cherry flavors and great length. Again, compared to 2008, tannins are smoother, more back of mouth. All in all, it’s a lovely fresh, linear, Touriga style  20eu Tasted 10.2012

Quinta do Mondego 2008 14% Some of this blend (50% Touriga Nacional, 20% Roriz, 15% Jaen and 10% Alfrocheiro) was matured in new oak, but majority went into used barriques. Rich, clean, highly polished mix of floral and barrel fermentation aromas and focused black cherry flavors flow into equally polished textures with a degree of finesse, good length and long finish. This is very modern approach to Dao blend. But not overtly oaked or over done. 10eu Tasted 10.2012

Quinta do Mondego 2009 13.5% Made of 80% Touriga Nacional, with Roriz, Jaen and Alfrocheiro in support. A portion went into new oak, but the majority was made in used barriques. This Touriga Nacional dominated blended shows great length and flavors: big brambly blackberry and violet aromas, beautifully concentrated, creamy smooth, seamless palate with Touriga’s mid-palate dusty tannins. Great wine.  10eu Tasted 10.2012

Rosados Tinto 2008 13.5% This is a stainless steel blend of mostly Roriz and Jaen with a touch of Alfrocheiro, Touriga Nacional and Baga. Normally this blend has a higher percentage of Jaen. Nice soft fruity, floral aromas, nice tight firm finish. Clean, modern style.   At 3.5eu locally it is very good value. Tasted 10.2012

Rosados Tinto 2009 13.3% This is a stainless steel blend of mostly Roriz and Jaen with a touch of Alfrocheiro, Touriga Nacional and Baga. Spouting bigger, fruiter, more savoruy aromas than 2008, this wine offers a full, fresh, fruity palate, with fine, clean acidity, polished textures and well managed oak and tannins. Nice wine 3.5eu and excellent value. Tasted 10.2012
