Herdade do Rocim Clay Aged Branco 2017

Herdade do Rocim Clay Aged Branco 2017

13%. This blend of Verdelho, Viosinho and Alvarinho grapes is foot-trodden and fermented lagar then aged in 140-liter clay pots for 9 months. Although deep yellow/amber colors, it is not an orange wine at all. Full-bodied with creamy textures laced with stone fruit, peach pit flavors and lowish acidity. A wine for drinking now, with a gentle finish with just enough acidity to cleanse the palate. Somewhat reminiscent of barrel-fermented Chardonnay without the toasted vanilla-oak characters and bitter-oak tannins.  For me, not as potentially long-lived as the clay-aged red, but drinking beautifully now.
