Herdade do Rocim Clay Aged Tinto 2019

14%. A blend of Alicante Bouchet, Trincadeira and Touriga Franca that has been foot-trodden and fermented in open top lagars. After maturing in 140-liter clay jugs for 14 months. I’ve tasted this wine a couple of times now and been impressed both times. Initially offers up a mix of dried blackberry, brambly loganberry and red fruit aromas, with firm acidity and tannins. An hour of breathing develops florals with red cherry characters becoming more dominant. More air brings tart morello cherry notes, both dried and fresh. The texture develops a slick viscosity and a degree of linearity and nice flavor length. 24 hours later, black fruit aromas emerge with prunes, fig and date notes. Texture develops a seamless, polished glossy feel with soft tannins and balanced acidity. Drinking quite nicely at the moment. As usual, an interesting, unique style. Tasted 4 & 8.22 93
