The Gaube family have been vignerons for six generations. Their current wine cellar was established in 1895 (expanded in 2008) and began earning awards from 1901 onward. Every generation since has had formal viticultural training and diplomas to prove it. 

Currently Alojzij grows and makes wine with help from his son, who also runs the tasting room. Mrs. Gaube is an excellent chef who serves new interpretations of traditional dishes in the winery’s restaurant for lunch and dinner (only three tables and 20 places, so reservations essential). 

Gaube’s vineyards, growing 10 varieties, run right up to the Austrian border and share similar soil types, vineyard exposure and climatic influences with their Styrian neighbors. 

House wine styles focus on accentuating primary fruits and aromatics. All are packed full of lively, spicy, New World-like pure fruits, squeaky clean textures, lively acidity and, for the most part, finish bone dry.
