Canena Tinto 2017

Canena Tinto 2017 Vinho de Talha DOC

15% A blend of old vine Aragonez, Trincadeira, Tinta Grossa and Moreto. Offers a mixture of dried fruits and blackberry-strawberry jam aromas and flavors. A very full bodied wine, bolstered by a strong streak of alcoholic glycerin running throughout. An ultra-ripe style with just enough acidity to balance. I found it overly hot and heavy back when I first tried it in Alentejo’s August’s heat, but now in December, as a storm rages outside the old Cornish fisherman’s cottage I’m inhabiting, it turned out to be a perfect winter wine to accompany the roasted lamb I’m eating at the moment.  Tasted 7.12.21 3rd retasting 28.3.22. The wine was served in a very different context, dining (beef bourguignon) with friends who were winemakers. This time the wine was more linear, less overtly alcoholic and well liked for its smooth texture and balancing acidity. 89
