Klet Zanut Wines

Zanut Rebula 2018 12.5%. This is a lovely even tempered, elegantly styled wine with good acidity and texture. Offers interesting almondine-like aromas and flavors in a light, slightly oily texture with refreshing acidity. Very drinkable stuff 16.5/20

Zanut Zakaj 2015 13.5% Leads with savory, flinty aromas, carries on through a medium body and firm acidity. 15/20

Zanut Sivi (Gris) Pinot 2018 14% A light slightly grassy, grigio style with a fine, condensed, oily texture, good length and great acidity to drive forward motion. 16.5/20

Zanut Sauvignon Blanc 2015 13% A warm blooded Sauvignon style with honeyed, sweat pea aromas. Full bodied, with lemony acidity in support. For fans of Californian Fume styles 15.5/20.

Zanut Sauvignon Blanc 2016 13% Initially offers up straw, pea, green bean and mineral aromas. Fresher than 2015, fleshier, with more complex layers to textures cut through by lovely tart, lemon acidity. This wine was greatly improved by airing. Aromas became fresher, more herbal, developing intriguing boxwood, white pepper and tomato leaf notes and lovely grapefruit and lemon flavors. One of better of riper Sauvignon styles I tasted in Slovenia: fine, elegant, beautifully balanced. 17.5/20

Zanut Merlot 2016 13.5% More fruit than CS. This is a lighter more elegant and refreshing style of Merlot: floral, herbal red fruit aromas and flavors, medium bodied, firm tannins and high acidity. 15/20

Zanut Merlot Brjac 2009 15.5% This is from very hot, dry year with long hang time and aged 3-4 years in 500 ltr barrels. Raisined, prune, dried red fruit aromas and flavors -- almost Amarone like. Relatively light bodied, considering the extreme alcohol level here, with oak tannins on finish. Quite an astringent wine on the edge of drying out. 15/20

Zanut Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 14% Offers up leafy Cabernet florals, quite fresh, lively aromas actually. Light bodied with red/black currant like flavors with fine, firm tannins. A tight clean, linear style of Cabernet. 15.5/20

Zanut Augustus 2011 15.5% A single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, named for a grandfather who advised Cabernet should be planted on the steepest vineyard in future. ½ of this wine was aged in old barrels for 5 years. Offers up ripe, complex Cabernet aromas, with hints of spice and tobacco leaves. A tight linear style, with fine firm tannins and good length. For long term drinking, recently released. 16.5/20
