Horvat is traditional family run business: combination winery, tasting room and cozy traditional restaurant. Unusual for Slovenia, Horvat has a woman winemaker, Sabina Horvat. Her chatty husband, Damijan manages front of house operations and instructive pourings in the tasting room.

Their nine hectare vineyard forms a amphitheater above the winery wearing a variety of soil types and naturally catching the sun from various angles. The vines are cropped at extremely low levels of 1kg per vine, ensuring concentration and producing around 30-40,000 bottles each year.

Sabina likes a riper style of Sauvignon Blanc, intentionally focused on eliminating green herbal characters without losing floral-fruity notes, focusing instead on texture and flavors. Sauvignon is harvested over a 15 day period from three different vineyard sites and made into two different styles. One dry at 4 grams residual sugar, and another a more traditional semi-sweet version with 35 grams RS. Sparkling wine is also produced along with single varietal wines from Chardonnay, Muscat and Laski Riesling.

All in all, the winery has a happy, welcoming feel.
